Barros Colheita Port 1996, Douro, Portugal
Barros are known for their outstanding "Colheita" Ports - these are all from a single vintage and vineyard, then aged for an extended period in large casks (nearly 25 years in the case of the 1996!), before being bottled to order.
The result are elegant Ports, lighter in colour than their "Vintage" counterparts, with an amazing level of herbal, dried fruit, spice and savoury character. I love them, these are bottles that you can open, pop in the fridge door, then drink over the course of a few weeks (or days!) with things like lighter cheeses and charcuterie, or maybe just a small glass once everyone else has gone to bed!
