February Trio

February Trio

Lots of people are still asking for medium to fuller-bodied reds, particularly on the colder nights, to match richer dishes. I've put together a pack of three reds which always hit the spot, which we'll offer for the month of February.

Included is a stunning example of a Rhone classic, customer favourite "Motus" Mourvedre from the Roussillon and Tandem's beautifully crafted Tempranillo x Cabernet x Merlot blend from Navarra.

Vacqueyras Domaine de la Charbonniere 2017

Rhone, France

(Grenache, Syrah)

Tasting this recently (30/1/21) I was reminded of the immensely rich, succulent fruit of the Grenache, typical of many of the 2017s. This is top-level Rhone, from a leading family-run producer with plots of vines spread across Chateauneuf and Vacqueyras. Thanks to its ripe fruit and sweet spice this would be excellent served with grilled meats, but would also work well with a wide variety of cheeses, even Gouda melted on the BBQ!

Domaine Treloar Motus Mourvèdre 2016

Roussillon, France

(Mourvedre, Syrah, Grenache)

A dark, thick-skinned variety from Roussillon in the very South of France. With a year in oak, this is a full-bodied, rich, brooding wine with earthy, gamey notes and a complex palate with dark fruits, touches of leather and a toasty edge. Pairs well with roast lamb and other gamey dishes.

Bodega Tandem "Ars Nova" 2014

Navarra, Spain

(Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot)

A blend of Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Navarra, next door to Rioja. Aged for 2 years in concrete which gives it a great texture, and 9 months in oak which gives firmer, richer tannins, more spice and darker black fruit. A great food wine, especially with hard cheeses and charcuterie.
