Instagram tasting set with Mauro Pavia, Agostino Pavia
Saturday 20th March —7:30pm
Agostino Pavia’s 10 hectares of vines are set in the rolling hills of Piedmont, the village of Agliano Terme is around an hour’s drive from Turin. They are ideally situated and dedicated to growing the Barbera grape, but also have small plantings of Grignolino, Syrah and Dolcetto.
Agostino began planting Barbera in the 1950s, and still works in the vineyards during the harvest. His two sons, Giuseppe and Mauro now handle most of the work in the vines and the cellar. We’ll be joining the inimitable Mauro on Saturday evening to taste three of their wines, to really give a feel for the spirit of the region and the winemakers.
Grignolino was a great discovery last Spring, when we couldn’t get enough of this aromatic, unoaked, juicy, fruity, easy-drinking red while sat in the garden or enjoying a barbecue. The Barbera d’Asti Casareggio has been a firm favourite since we opened in 2017—the perfect all-round aperitivo, charcuterie, pizza, pasta… bright red fruits, great freshness and a delicious savoury edge thanks to a few months of ageing in large oak casks. The final wine is a real treat, the Barbera d’Asti Superiore La Masciarella, a deep, concentrated, rich-textured (15% abv) wine that retains great acidity and balance.
We’ll be offering this as a pack of three wines, also available to order individually:
2019 Grignolino (£14 single bottle)
2019 Barbera d’Asti Casareggio (£13 single bottle)
2017 Barbera d'Asti Superiore La Marescialla (£25 single bottle)
Three wine tasting set = £46.80 (normally £52)
Mauro and I will start tasting the wines from the shop at 7:30pm (UK time)
