Savennieres 'La Croix Picot' Domaine Fournier Longchamps, Loire, France
The region of Savennieres produces some of the most structured, finest, age-worthy Chenin Blanc in the world. Philip Fournier and his son Julien run this small Organic Estate, following winemaking traditions that began over 800 years ago.
The wine has a laser-sharp mineral edge, lightly rounded-off with some time spent in oak barrels, without tasting at all oaky. As the wine opens up aromas of quince, grapefruit and nectarine start to unfold, underpinned by an amazing saline, stoney minerality.
Fantastic with a Gouda fondue, but would be even better with Sushi, Goat's cheese or a massive plate of Fruits de Mer. In truth, this wine has the structure and balance to go with just about any plate you throw at it!
If you can bear to hold on to this bottle, this will improve over the course of the next few years (or more) and it'll be even better.
