Tour de Loire Mixed Case
Rocher des Violettes Petillant Originel, Montlouis, Loire
A Loire Valley version of Pet Nat but stricter, made from only Chenin Blanc and with zero intervention permitted. The resulting wine is bracingly pure with white fruit on the nose, exceptional texture and depth of flavour, fine bubbles and a fresh, almost chalky finish. A superb aperitif or pair with (Loire Valley) goats' cheeses.
Balland Sancerre Grande Cuvee, Loire
A fuller, richer style of Sauvignon Blanc with some barrel ageing. Fresh and herbal on the nose with white peaches and hints of honey and spice. Rich yet dry in the mouth with yellow plums, a hint of toasty oak and a flinty minerality. Great partner for rich and oily fish.
Vigneau-Cheavreau Vouvray Sec Silex, Loire
Some very special Chenin Blanc is produced here, Vigneau-Chevreau is perfectly placed and one of only two biodynamic producers within the region. The Silex is grown on flint and clay soils, partly aged in old barrels, and has an intense, appley, mineral edge. A touch off-dry.
Louise Chéreau, ‘Katharos’ Muscadet “sans soufre ajouté”, Loire
Katharos is Ancient Greek for "purity" = no addition of sulphites. A richer more aromatic style of Muscadet yet still really fresh. Intense golden colour, aromas of exotic fruits and notes of ripe pear and crisp green apple. Beautifully balanced, with aromatic freshness and a delicious long finish. Match with shellfish, crab, lobster, charcuterie and mature cheeses.
Chateau de Villeneuve, Saumur Champigny Rouge, Loire
An elegant wine from the Loire made from 100% Cabernet Franc - a great alternative to Pinot Noir. Fresh red fruit on the nose leads to a clean palate of raspberry fruit, good acidity and silky tannins. Great on its own or with roast chicken, grilled pork and sausages.
Grosbois, “Cuisine de ma Mere”, Chinon, Loire
An organic, naturally made Cabernet Franc from the cooler region of the Loire Valley - so a lighter, fresher style of red. Really crisp and freshly fruity, almost herbaceous on the finish. Would work well slightly chilled.
