Wine Flight & Cheeses

Wine Flight at Vino Tap

Wednesday 5th September – Sunday 9th October

We’ve decided to start serving “Weekly Wine Flights”. Every Thursday we’ll pick three wines – different every week – usually with a bit of a theme.

Why not try the flight with our £10 cheese plate, we try to pick wines that will match the cheeses each week. This week we have Brillat Savarin (a triple cream, soft-ripened style), Montgomery’s Cheddar (a rich, nutty, 12 months matured, from Somerset) and Beauvale Blue (a smooth, creamy textured Blue from Nottinghamshire).

All cheeses are sourced from Artisan Cheesemonger Buchanans, Porchester Place.

The wines - £10 for three 75ml tasters

Wine 1: Chateau de Villeneuve Saumur Blanc, Loire, France - £5.50 125ml glass

Saumur is in the central Loire Valley. Made with 100% organic Chenin Blanc of which 30% has been barrel fermented. Tasting notes of apple, apricot and high minerality from the chalky-limestone soils. This wine is hugely popular among staff and customers, and should be the perfect palate-cleanser after the grassy, creamy style of the Brillat Savarin.

Wine 2: Tinta Tinto Syrah, Casablanca Valley, Chile - £6.10 125ml glass

A small, family-run winery, started as an experimental project in a garage and only becoming full-time in 2015. Everything is done by hand, even down to each individually printed labels! This Syrah is fermented "semi-carbonic", so think Shiraz meets Beaujolais. Juicy, plummy, blueberry fruit and a touch of liquorice, which will taste even softer with some cheese.

Wine 3: Maddalena Moscato d'Asti, Piedmont, Italy - £5 125ml glass

The Adriano Family are famous for their Barberas and Nebbiolos from Barbaresco but also make this delicious Moscato. A light nose of grapes, flowers and peaches, on the palate lemon and grapefruit flavours with a fresh, light yet slightly sweet taste. Low in alcohol (5%), it's perfect as an aperitif, but the sweetness should balance out the savoury, saltiness of the blue cheese beautifully.
